H.R. 45

Well they are still at it. Now we have H.R. 45 - Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009

The link:
www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/text

I'm really getting to the point where enough is enough. How much further is Big Brother going to get into our private lives? What are they (Gov't) trying ot accomplish? Are they trying to push and push to see what they can cause? Do they really think we will just roll over for them? I wihs I could just say what I want to but I am sure somewhere in our Gov't someone sits all day and looks for blogs, posts, e-mails, messages that "they" feel is anti-Gov't or someone trying to stir up things so I will not say a thing here. But I am sure many here know exactly how I feel about all this Big Brother CRAP!

Gun-ban list

1. Gun-ban list proposed

Slipping below the radar (or under the short-term memory cap), the Democrats have already leaked a gun-ban list, even under the Bush administration when they knew full well it had no chance of passage (HR 1022, 110th Congress). It serves as a framework for the new list the Brady’s plan to introduce shortly.

I have an outline of the Brady’s current plans and targets of opportunity; we’re working on getting that news out ASAP after these ban lists and will probably be ready in the next few days. It’s horrific. They’re going after the courts, regulatory agencies, firearms dealers and statutes in an all out effort to restrict We The People. They’ve made little mention of criminals.

Now more than ever, attention to the entire Bill of Rights is critical. Gun bans will impact our freedoms under search and seizure, due process, confiscated property, states rights, free speech, right to assemble and more, in addition to the Second Amendment. See what 250 of your peers thought during our recent Bill of Rights Day event at the Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix :http://www.gunlaws.com/BOR-Day-2008-Report.htm

The Democrats current gun-ban-list proposal (final list WILL be worse):

Rifles (YES and copies and duplicates):
· M1 Carbine, Sturm Ruger Mini-14, AR-15, Bushmaster XM15, Armalite M15, AR-10, Thompson 1927, Thompson M1;
· AK, AKM, AKS, AK-47, AK-74, ARM, MAK90, NHM 90, NHM 91, SA 85, SA 93, VEPR;
· Olympic Arms PCR; AR70, Calico Liberty, Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle or Dragunov SVU, Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, or FNC, Hi-Point Carbine, HK-91, HK-93, HK-94, HK-PSG-1, Thompson 1927 Commando, Kel-Tec Sub Rifle;
· Saiga, SAR-8, SAR-4800, SKS with detachable magazine, SLG 95, SLR 95 or 96, Steyr AUG, Tavor, Uzi, Galil and Uzi Sporter, Galil Sporter, or Galil Sniper Rifle (Galatz).

Pistols (or copies or duplicates):
· Calico M-110, MAC-10, MAC-11, or MPA3, Olympic Arms OA, TEC-9, TEC-DC9, TEC-22 Scorpion, or AB-10, Uzi.

Shotguns (or copies or duplicates):
· Armscor 30 BG, SPAS 12 or LAW 12, Striker 12, Streetsweeper.

Catch-all Categories (for anything missed or new designs):

A semiautomatic rifle that accepts a detachable magazine and has (i) a folding or telescoping stock, (ii) a threaded barrel, (iii) a pistol grip (which includes ANYTHING that can serve as a grip, see below), (iv) a forward grip; or a barrel shroud.

Any semiautomatic rifle with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds. (except tubular magazine .22 rimfire rifles-unlike New Jersey which bans these too!).

A semiautomatic pistol that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine, and has (i) a second pistol grip, (ii) a threaded barrel, (iii) a barrel shroud or (iv) can accept a detachable magazine outside of the pistol grip, and (v) a semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.

A semiautomatic shotgun with (i) a folding or telescoping stock, (ii) a pistol grip (see definition below), (iii) the ability to accept a detachable magazine or a fixed magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds, and (iv) a shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

Frames or receivers for the above are included, along with conversion and/or completer kits.

Attorney General gets carte blanche to ban guns at will:

Under the proposal, the U.S. Attorney General can add any “semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General.” Note that Obama’s pick for this office (Eric Holder, confirmation hearing set for Jan. 15) wrote a brief in the Heller case supporting the position that you have no right to have a working firearm in your own home.

In making this determination, the bill says, “there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.”

In plain English this means that ANY firearm ever obtained by federal officers or the military is not suitable for the public.

That presumption can be challenged only by suing the federal government over each firearm it decides to ban, in a court it runs with a judge it pays. This virtually dismisses the principles of the Second Amendment.

The last part is particularly clever, stating that a firearm doesn’t have a sporting purpose just because it can be used for sporting purpose -- is that devious or what? And of course, “sporting purpose” is a rights infringement with no constitutional or historical support whatsoever, invented by domestic enemies of the right to keep and bear arms to further their cause of disarming the innocent.

If these near-total bans aren’t enough, the most dangerous part may be the phrase “pistol grip” because: “The term ‘pistol grip’ means a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip.” In other words, any semi-auto long gun with a grip (that’s ALL semi-auto long guns) would be banned under the existing proposal. It’s not clear what they hope to achieve by deceptively banning guns with grips instead of just calling to ban the guns -- even an idjit can tell it’s the same thing.

I didn’t cover here all the magazine bans, transfer bans, dealer record-keeping and centralized reporting, and a host of nuisance details -- there will be time enough for that when the new lists are released soon: “As soon as President-elect Obama is inaugurated and the 111th Congress is sworn in,” according to Ms. Brady. Congress is set to be sworn in on Jan. 6, Inauguration Day is Jan. 20.

No one expects the new proposal to be less abusive than the current one supported by the party of the Democrats. Remember -- these bans were proposed when the congressional anti-rights crowd had no chance of success. Now they are ready to run wild, or according to Sarah herself, “I have never been so confident.” The “news” media has failed to report on any of this, preferring instead to blare that the incoming president supports the Second Amendment and commonsense (gun) laws.

To see the whole bill, go to http://thomas.loc.gov and search for HR 1022, (switch to the 110th Congress if the 111th has begun).

The excellent Firearms Coalition started by the late Neal Knox and now run by his family members makes these important points about the upcoming Judiciary hearings for AG nominee Holder:

“The Democrat members of the Judiciary Committee are all sworn enemies to the Second Amendment and are unlikely to be swayed at all by any firearms related arguments, but might hesitate to confirm based on Holder’s participation in the pardons of 16 Puerto Rican terrorists and billionaire financier and arms merchant Marc Rich [and perhaps the Elian Gonzalez abduction by federal agents Holder authorized]. Any letters to Democrats should focus on those issues.

“On the Republican side, Arlen Specter, the ranking Republican on the committee has never been a friend to gun rights, but he owes his reelection to NRA support and has expressed concern over the pardon issues. Among the other Republicans, most are relatively reliable votes, but only Coburn has routinely taken a leadership role on Second Amendment matters. All of them need to be pressed hard to do everything they can to block the appointment.

“For more information about Eric Holder and why his appointment must be fought tooth and nail, go to our web site at http://www.FirearmsCoalition.org.”

first season...damn it I hate the learning curve!!

so, first season. I have been dilagently going to my stand, doing my hours in the lovely woods, freezing my arse off and being happy about where I am. It seems I am single handedly crippling the carasmatic megafawna:
Bow season: stuck a doe in the shoulder blade-gone!
Then, a couple of days ago I am sitting in my stand behind my house and out of the woods comes a BEAUTIFUL 10pt. I get to watch him for a while before he gets to where I want to take a shot at him. I get ready. I am shooting an Ithaca 20gauge with a peep sight which I cant see a thing through. To much grey on grey in the early morning to get a clear view. Take a shot, miss. he is running take another shot, bubye. I get down and check it out. A big spray of white hair, chunks of meat with tiny white bone fragments through out. I follow the trail for about 100yrds. Gone. Alan thinks I nailed its leg. AHHHHHHH.
Last day of shotgun season (no rifles in my county) my friend Alan does a drive and suddenly there are TWO BUCKS (the littlle one was a 6pt and dunno about the big one) about 30yrs away from my stand!! They run in kinda confused, jog in front of me BANG, run some more BANG, take off and BANG BANG!! Alan comes out of the woods and gives me a thumbs up because there is a nice blood trail. We follow and follow and follow, it starts to snow, %^$#! Being enthusiastic and greedy I shot both of em. which makes tracking interesting. We find a piece of leg bone near my stand (poor guy) We conclude, because I suck so bad, that I blasted one of their legs off and the other I shaved the top of its back. For Christ sake I was given a gift and I blew it! Gone!
I am sooo EEERRRRRRR!!
After a shot, looking for the blood trail is just depressing. I feel stupid. There is hardly anything to follow and I know how it is going to end. It's a good thing my family isn't depending on me for food...they would have starved by now.

Just got my hunting license

Well I passed my Hunter's safety exam and off I drove to Longs to buy that license. Sooooo excited!!!!!!
And along with that excitement I felt a tremendous responsibility...not only to be safe...but to the animals which I will eventually hunt. I am not in any rush to shoot and kill anything. No, I have a lot to think about and more practice shooting ahead of me.
I started on this journey because I was a vegetarian for 15 years.
I felt the enslavement of animals for food was pretty fucking whimpy and lazy.
I really did not understand hunting either...until I went hunting with a good friend of mine.
It took skill, patience, understanding and a whole lot of physical exertion.
We never even saw a deer that day. We heard a doe whistle...heard a deer snort....but no sightings.
I was excited...I felt alive and in participation with nature.
This was real to me. If I was going to ever eat meat, this was how I would do it.
So, here I am poised to hunt.
Last week I retrieved a quail for my friend who had shot it and gone on ahead. I felt its life quiver out of its warm body and it made me a little sad.
I thanked it for it would be dinner tonight. And then I felt my place in the larger cycle and it was a mighty intense experience.

Howdy!

I am very interested in deer hunting and am in a bit of a situation and I thought ya'll might be able to help out.

As it is, I am a TsaLaGhi Indian and I am getting hitched in the next year or so. Tradition has it that I have to present the best part of my kill to her Daddy when I go calling to ask for his daughter's hand.

Now the problem is 1) I live in Oakland CA and 2) I have never been deer hunting.

I know that there are resources out there and maybe even a chance in Hell that I might get a deer, but like I said, a chance in Hell is about what I got to make this happen. Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm not much trouble, am fully willing to pay my way, supply my own equipment, etc. plus re-imburse anyone for their time, and don't take up much room in the jump seat of the truck! Any suggestions ya'll might have would really come in handy!

Thanks!

Sam

I've been asking about hunting and trying to get invited out for a remedial course in hunting (first in Iowa, now Washington state) for years now, with no luck.

Any other shooting related sport, if you indicate an interest, you'll get invited out, probably loaned equipment: cowboy action shooting, action pistol, service rifle leagues. But not hunting.

My understanding is that the hunting population continues to decline. Perhaps my experiences point to a reason?

I have a mandate from the wife to refil the freezer. We've nearly eaten our way though the sow I shot last spring. Which was my second hunt ever. I'm extracting myself from life in San Francisco and am in the process of migrating to Napa. I work weekends, but will be free of that the frist couple of weeks in July.

Ideally, I'd like to tag along with someone with more experience or meet someone to learn with. Dad wan't into blood sport any more than fishing. The two times i've gone its always been a memorable experiece.

The first time was in Normandy hunting for rabbit and woodcock. It was an unspeakably beautiful trouncing though the early morning countryside.

My plan B was to go back to the Red Fern Ranch near Gilroy in the next two months. An acquaintance owns it and has a ranch hand who guides hunts for $350 or so. Last I went the policy was no pig, no pay...

Hello all of you-

We're gonna have a baby!
By mid July our child will be born and we'll be starting in with our own little family. I couldn't be more thrilled.

I want to try to get as much hunting in around the year as I can without taking extended trips or weekends away from home. We live in Oakland CA and although I'm excited to get us all out in the woods together, it's gonna be a few years till I can get our daughter out to join me on hunting excursions.

I have been an owner of firearms for quite some time and a few years ago was an active competitor in pistol matches. I'm comfortable and familliar with the equipment and understand safety and ballistics quite well, definitely well enough to feel prepared to go after game.

Recently a friend gave me a compound bow which I've had fitted for me and set up nicely for hunting, I also have some very nice black powder rifles and shotguns and want to take advantage of any opportunities that the use of the more primitave gear will open for me with respect to the time of year I will be allowed to hunt, as well as use my centerfire nitro guns during the regular season.
I'm also very interested in handgun hunting, and will be getting out with a revolver where and when it'll be appropriate.

I will be getting my first hunting license this weekend, and I'm interested in getting out as soon as I can to start in on feeding us with game I take around the state. Birds, pigs, deer... really at this point my interest is to get out and get experience and good wild meat.

Is there anyone here from the SF bay area doing much hunting through the year? Are there many decent opportunities to hunt on public land inside a day trip from Oakland? Is there much possibility to hunt private land around here without having to pay for the privlege?

I do not hunt (yet), but when I was a kid we always had a freezer full of wild game (moose, deer, duck, etc). Now that I've moved across an international border & 2400mi from home, my supply's cut off :(

Do you hunt? Do you catch more than you can eat? Would you like to share? (I'm in the SF bay area.)

now i have taken lots of deer but i think the hunting gods were trying to take me down a peg with this one... now where i hunt deer is pretty remote and very steep and hilly, rocky terrain... i shoot this doe and the craziest thing happens... the bullet hits the ball of the shoulder takes a right turn and blows a hole in the brisket but doesn't go any further.. so basically the deer's is slowly bleeding out and the tracking begins... the resillience of this animal was impressive as i tracked her up and down the mountain for god knows how long before i get to the river where i see she went in the water... i look to the island in the center of the water and she is down on the edge.. it was near 5 so i had to let her lay until morning... i return and wade to get to her.. i realize the water is moving too fast to drag her so i have to do some creative butchering... i take both front shoulders and the back straps and tie them to my pack.. the hind quarters, i cut holes in the hocks grab with both hands and put it on my back and trek out... it took six hours to get her back to the truck but i bet she'll taste better than any buck i ever killed...

I have a real hankering to hunt antelope out west. What states have the best herds and how hard is it to get an out of state license? Are there combo licences for muilies and antelope? What are the nuances of hunting antelope? I have successfully hunted mule deer, but it was a mountainous habitat, not plains.

My only experience has been in Northwest Wyoming, where I actually walked to within 40 yards of a pair with a kid. I also saw several lone antelope while travelling into southern Wyoming.

Hi there, I just joined this tribe and I wanted to introduce myself. I live in CA and have hunted all my life. I had a little lull the end of h.s./beginning of college, but I'm back with a vengence for the last 3+ years. I have worked for CA DFG for 5 years, the last 3 being on a W.A. doing pheasant research. I've been pretty much a bird hunter, though I have deer hunted with both bow and rifle (no success though, maybe this year). Umm, that's it for now, though I'm always looking for new recipes, and would like to meet more people, especially girls my age that hunt. ~J

Help save game warden jobs

Here's a letter that was given to me. I think it was in an Oakland or Berkely newspaper.

Dear Editor,
Game wardens are probably the least recognized and appreciated members of the law enforcement community, even though their work includes the regular duties of peace officer, as well as wildlife law enforcement. Many of the people with whom wardens come in contact are armed and often miles from the closest backup.

Inexcusably, game wardens are paid considerably less than the 8,000 California Highway Patrol officers. The 28,000 California state corrections officers just got a 6.8 percent pay raise, while wardens' salaries are frozen and overtime pay canceled. Not acceptable.

California's game wardens face an impossible task and wildlife suffers accordingly. California has 159,000 square miles of land, 1,100 miles of coastline, 35 million people (and growing) and only 375 wardens to patrol it all. Probably 1,000 wardens would be necessary to do the job properly. A reasonable salary for this dangerous yet critically important work would help attract the needed qualified personnel.

Recently, the Department of Fish & Game announced plans to lay off 32 to 38 wardens this month, roughly 10 percent of an already understaffed work force. Again, not acceptable. Poaching is on the increase and "The Thin Green Line" as the wardens like to call themselves, is the last bastian of protection for out beleaguered wildlife and the environment. Without major reforms, game wardens are likely to become as endangered as some of the critters they so dedicatedly protect. They are my heroes. Yet few in Sacramento seem to care.

This dismal situation should be made a campaign issue for every now - and future - governor and all legislators may be written c/o The State Capitol, Sacramento, CA 95814.
